AROUND THE BLOCK

Hyperlocal news hits CBC

Early this morning, Kathleen Petty welcomed me and Wellington Oracle editor Evan Thornton into the CBC’s studio to talk about hyperlocal news in Ottawa. On Ottawa Morning‘s website, they refer to our trade as “micro-community news”. I kind of like how that sounds, too.

Here is a link to the clip. You’ll need Realplayer to hear the CBC’s feed.

Welcome to the online home of Around the Block, the newest hyperlocal news program on Ottawa radio.

Around the Block aims to explore local issues for two hours every Friday on CHUO 89.1 FM, but its co-hosts won’t stop at simply covering the news. Each week, they will challenge listeners to appreciate the diversity of the University of Ottawa and the communities that surround it simply by hearing from the people who inhabit them.

Around the Block will launch on May 8 and broadcast live every Friday at 11 a.m. on CHUO 89.1 FM. Podcasts of all shows will be available at theblockonline.ca.
